Arts and Entertainment

Share the Music, Share the Magic

An Initiative Promoting The Advancement Of Arts And Entertainment Education In The Public School System Of Pennsylvania

A recent study “Academic Atrophy: The Condition of the Liberal Arts in America’s Public Schools” conducted by the Council for Basic Education, found the following:
• Overall decreases in instructional time for the arts.
• 25% of all principals surveyed reported decreases in instructional time for the arts while only 8% reported increases.
• 33% of all principals’ anticipated future decreases in instructional time in the arts; 7% anticipated increases.

And this from the National Endowment for the Arts Chairman, Dana Gioia; “After a decade of steady growth, state arts budgets have been cut back significantly - with a 21% decline over the past two years and greater cuts predicted next year. Some states have been particularly hard hit. California, for example, will be cutting its arts budget by 75% or more. Worse yet, several states have seriously debated eliminating arts funding altogether. Although no state has yet done the dirty deed, the mere debate suggests that the political and social consensus that once existed about the necessity of public support for arts and arts education is breaking down. For many people the arts and arts education are viewed as expendable, elitist luxuries rather than necessary elements of a healthy democratic society.”

This is a trend that is extremely unsettling and could have tragic consequences if left unchecked. The arts are being systematically pushed out of our school systems due to an increase in concentration and standardized testing in the areas of Reading, Science, and Mathematics. This is not to say that this is a mistake, it truly is not, but at what cost are these subjects being improved; Very often, at a cost of diminished resources for music, art, and theatre education.

As a not-for-profit provider of Arts and Entertainment in the State of Pennsylvania, we aim to supplement and enhance the opportunities for our students by providing access to world class arts and entertainment education through Masters Classes and One-on-One Interactions with current and historic entertainers and musicians.

With great success comes great responsibility. It is our intention to create the opportunity for students, or in some cases supplement their Arts education through access to educational programs not currently provided within the public school system.
