The Forgotten Population

The United Way of Blair County, Operation Our Town & in2it join forces for community volunteerism, rock 'n' roll, and students

So the concept for the 10,000 Hours Show started with the thought that high school and college students are kind of a forgotten population - a forgotten population with a stigma of "slothism" and selfishness. We looked around the table, agreed this wasn't true, and said, how can we change this? How can we prove the masses wrong?

We didn't come up with a permanent solution, but a instead, a damn cool idea that's been as fun for us to plan as it's going to be for the kids who attend.

Here's how it all started... Tommi Burchfield from our local United Way office picked up the phone one day and said, "I've heard of this concept, let's see if it has legs in Blair county."

The basic concept is pretty damn simple, which is why we knew it would be a hit with students... High school and college students perform and track 10 hours of volunteer service hours in our local community and they earn a free ticket to a rock concert. You can't buy your way in, you volunteer your way in...

We met, developed a plan, booked the up-and-coming band Bayside, and charged forward in the name of community volunteerism, rock n' roll, and students.

This event really is a great way to get a ton of work done in our community, draw some attention to the kids who are busting their butts to make Central PA a better place for us all to live, while thanking them for their service.

Help us spread the word to high school and college students you know:
